Wow! What an exciting party that was! Well, yes, okay, yes, it did end with two of the party guests getting kidnapped, which was very scary once I realized it was not part of a murder mystery game. But, still, it was a very fun evening! I rarely get to go to many parties. I simply do not understand why as I am a VERY excellent party guest. I did a very good job chitting and chatting and mixing and mingling. I am quite a social butterfly.
Well, okay, so, yes, it is VERY sad and scary that Buttercup and Darling were kidnapped. Yes, Buttercup and Darling! That is their names, I think, as that is what they were calling each other, and so I think that simply must be their names. BUT… this whole dinner party has now given us a VERY good reason to stay in Cannon Beach a little bit longer so we can try and find Buttercup and Darling! While I figured, yes, this is what I figured, I figured that I could probably take Gemini all by myself. Big Guy has requested I guard the beach. YES! Can you believe it? The beach! And do you know what is at the beach in great abundance? Water! Yes! Splishy splashy water! One of my most favorite things EVER. Simply EVER! And not only is there SO MUCH water but there are also SO MANY flies! Flies are AMAZING! I love them so much. Not to eat them, of course, I am a regular human boy, so eating them would be very weird. But sometimes they fly near or into my mouth, and sometimes I close it, which is simply that. So, if Gemini shows up at the beach, they will have to face ME!
Meanwhile, the Barista, Big Guy, and the Professor lady are going into town to see if they can find Gemini. I suppose, yes, I suppose, Cannon is also still around and might be helping Gemini. They were trying to kidnap the Professor earlier this month. They simply must enjoy kidnapping a whole lot seeing how often they do it! It is nice to have hobbies. Though, this is a hobby that is perhaps not a very nice one to have. A better hobby would be kid napping which, and yes, I believe this is what it must mean, taking a nap like a kid. Which, I enjoy taking naps VERY much. And it is so very cozy by the ocean, and so, yes, I will be taking a very quick kid nap. But! BEWARE CANNON AND GEMINI! I sleep with one eye open. (It is true!)

What a proper circus that was. Guild of Clowns and Dummies? Seriously? Havin' a giraffe with that one, Robbie? Also—why does that lil' sailor doll want to live in some sort of medieval ren-faire land? Weird on all accounts. Anyway, Florida strutted in, wavin' that Scepter 'round like he owned the place—and for a bubble 'n squeak or so, I suppose he did. Can't Adam or Eve how he cracked the last Complexity first. Then again, in 'indsight, it was probably the easiest one out of the bunch. My golden dove even said it was the same final Complexity as the last nickel and dime she played for—well, it was the same method to solve it anyhow.
Florida is no dummy, despite the, well, obvious. He knew that the bloomin' Scepter wouldn't stick around, so he made a hair-brained plan to extend his power. Now, being the pragmatic bloke I am, I knew Florida's plan was more cracked that a porcelain doll. Clock this, he messed up by puttin' ANY sorta pixie dust into us, into my golden dove, no less. Give 'er the power to fly around Ottawa and you think she'll just roll over and scavenge around the pits for you? You're a right radio rental. Nah, Payroll cashed in her favor with Lucy—this time for real—and we… well, we blew that little doll up.
Boom.
Proper fireworks. Poor lil' Florida's dreams of 'alf-princehood went up in smoke. It was quite the bleedin' website to behold, truth be told. Anyway, soon after, the Scepter vanished, and everythin' hammer and tacked to business as usual. Here's the kicker, though—Florida, as expected, betrayed the Dark the second he got his felts on the tiniest drop of power. He made Umbra into a full-on jester. Well… he also made me into a jester. But, I think one of us is better at looking the other way, choice? Florida's out. He's gotta be. So… despite the bedlam of it all, I think we actually came out ahead on this one?

It's been a few days, and we haven't found much of anything yet. The chaos in the Society seems to be calming down a bit, but there's still this unshakable tension with the whole "who's the traitor" business. Is it Reuben? Simeon? Naphtali? Dan? And so on and so on. Again, not our problem, is it? I mean, I feel bad for them, I do. If there was a traitor in either Cafe and Diner, I'd be upset. But… I don't know, I can't help but think handing out magic books will always draw in bad actors.
Anyway, we've got a few new helpings of comfort food to chew on. Nothing major though. We found some traces of that oily gunk leading toward the outskirts of town. It's not the easiest trail to follow, as it can only be "seen" from certain angles, and the sharp metallic smell has faded. But, it's still been our best lead. Not sure if it's a deliberate red herring or if Gemini is just sloppy. Big Guy thinks it's a trap, but, hey, it's the best we've got to go off of right now.
So, my next move is heading back out to the 101 Highway. If Cannon can't stray too far from it by his own terms, then it's our best bet to find him. If we find him, I'm hoping we can find Gemini, the Couple, and the missing pieces. It's risky, but it's not like anything else we've done has worked. The Professor is gonna stick close by in case anything happens. She's got more than enough tricks up her sleeve (and between her pages) so we should be fine. Big Guy is gonna follow the rest of the trail left behind by Gemini. And New Guy? He has been having so much fun guarding the beach.
