CAFE AND DINER RECEIPT

MR. HERRICK CASE NO. 4

J.L. asked me to accompany S.W. to DeForest Park tonight so I could get some more hands-on experience. That, and it’s not like I’m sleeping much at night anyway, so it’s nice to have something to do. I believe we’ve decided on taking the most straightforward approach—trying to befriend Mr. Herrick. Ah, no, “friend” doesn’t quite work that way in the Cafe, does it? We’re going to try and ally ourselves with Mr. Herrick. Gain his trust so he’ll go with Mr. Ladoucette and Mr. Perez willingly back to his home in Ottawa.

Should that not work, our next step would be to craft a more specialized drink for Mr. Herrick. How we might go about doing that is anyone’s guess, though we suspect O.L.’s guess would be our best bet. The only issue with that is that O.L. is often not at the Cafe, and we have no way to reach her outside of our CaDComs. M.J. says that they have a messenger feature built in, but it runs off a server that went offline in 2004, so he’d need to revamp it before it would work again.

Who is O.L. anyway? I haven’t had the chance to meet her yet, and she didn’t go to high school with us, as far as I know. J.L. described her as a mysterious presence who swooped in with a bunch of prior Cafe and Diner knowledge. Doesn’t that seem suspicious to the rest of you? Perhaps I have my guard raised too high. Typically, in the stories I read, you should never trust the strange, all-knowing entity who arrives out of the blue. She says she worked for a Cafe and Diner before, right? If that were the case, wouldn’t she be able to access some of the older receipts? At the very least, some of the ones she herself wrote?
