Lately, I’ve been trying to help No. 4 with his recovery. His arm has been doing significantly better, but it still seems to lash out randomly. According to the Pathologist, this isn’t terribly uncommon, especially if the original owner of the arm is still around. Which… we don’t actually know if they are or not. Mrs. Evakui ever so helpfully left out where exactly she found the donor for No. 4’s new arm. And I’m not sure if No. 71 knows or not, but even if he does, I doubt he’d betray his connection’s trust.

To help us figure out where the arm is from, I’ve taken a few drops of blood from No. 4’s new arm to “sample.” Of course, blood alone doesn’t really tell me anything too concrete. I can only piece together vague, dreamlike sensations and not full memories. Now, if I took a real bite out of this case, I might get something more solid to work off of. But it seems counterproductive to nibble away at something we already paid a steep price for. Plus, it seems rude.

However, I did finally have something close to a breakthrough. It was an unmistakable flavor. A little hint of clove, allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon, vegetable broth, a dash of cream, and of course, pumpkin. Pumpkin stew. But not just any pumpkin stew. No. 44’s pumpkin stew. It’s hard to explain, but I know it’s her pumpkin stew. I’ve only had her pumpkin stew a few times, but this is it. It’s almost like I could picture it in front of me. I could maybe just be mixing up my own memories and sensations with the arm’s, but… I don’t know. I’ve let No. 44 know, and she seemed interested enough to stop by tomorrow. Hopefully, we can get to the bottom of No. 4’s arm!
