St. Valentine's Ledger

Patron: Nickels Costigan

Date: Aug 7th, 1923 – Gold Coast District

Location: St. Valentine's

Proprietor: Father Voss

I read what Nickels had to say to you, Ginny.

He’s right.

Let him be right, just this once.

Now isn’t the time to tempt providence or performance. I know you want the music back. We all do. Truth be told, more than a few nights I have stopped into St. Valentine's just to hear Nickels sing. It is a voice which draws a crowd. But it is no different than the alcohol you peddle. It's a sedative. One which is fine in small doses but dangerous in excess. Despite how it may sound he does not have the voice of angels. No. ███████████████████████████████████████.

Find a new act. Just for now.

Let the crowd crave him from a distance, rather than mourn him up close. This city has a hunger for beautiful endings, Ginny. That’s how the Devil gets his hooks in. There has to be some other songbird out there that can draw a crowd. But for now, you must hold off on the stage lights. Until we can sort out what's stirring beneath the still of the water. Let him stay in the dark, deep down below, where the coal dust lies. I would rather he has a chance to sing again rather than never sing at all.

At the very least, give us the time to travel down to ███████████ first. I can get us there and back rather quickly ███████████████████████████. I would personally feel much safer if Nickels had a once-over by ██████ and perhaps the other families down there. At the very least, they could provide some means of mitigating the ruin Nickels’ voice may bring. I've already sent a telegraph down that way. If all goes well, we can have Nickels make good on his promised performance. Beyond that, it would seem to be a matter between you two to work out.
