Geography

The final and lowest plane of the Otherside, Amaymon, is a mysterious realm of darkness that houses the majority of human souls after death. Of course, the elephant in the room needs to be addressed: is it Amaymon or Necropolis? Well, the proper name of the plane in the Demon-tongue is Amaymon. The Necropolis started out as the settlement of Asmodeus and her Demons. However, as humans continued to die, the Necropolis continued to grow. And grow. And grow. It reached such a size and sprawl that the Amaymon became known simply as the Necropolis as that is all that is seemingly there. Either term is correct, though some of the Amaymon's original inhabitants do not take well to the Necropolis—though they also have a distaste for Amaymon.

As mentioned, the Necropolis is the majority of what is in the Amaymon. At the center of the Necropolis is Asmodeus' Spire, where she once resided along with her highest levels of court. Then, radiating outwards from the Spire are five primary rings, each containing roughly an era's worth of Demons. The five main rings are known as the Dawn, Script, Crossroads, Discovery, and Eclipse rings. Though the rings are broken up into smaller sections, often by centuries, and some rings have merged and overlapped over time. Another notable feature of the Necropolis is the Labyrinth surrounding the Spire keeping undesirable Demons and visitors out.

Of course, the Necropolis isn't the only feature of its plane. Outside the Necropolis lies what is known as the Everdark Pits, home to the mysterious and ancient Sableblooded Shadowfolk. Little is known about them or the Everdark's geography, though it is known that somewhere in the Everdark is a" Sunken Throne" upon which the Morbid King sits. Anything else would be pure speculation and better suited to its own receipt.

History

By all accounts, the Necropolis/Amaymon should not exist. It is situated beneath the unending oceans of Mayda and has no known connection to the primordial Skald, which formed most of the Otherside. It seemingly appeared out of nowhere one day. That is if you believe only Demonic accounts. Upon speaking with Shadowfolk, they will tell you that the Everdark, known to them as Is, was there before even the Skald. Still, it's unclear what Is is, how it came to be, and if it is possibly older than the Universe, similar to Limbo.

Regardless, when the first human soul died, the Amaymon made itself known, and Asmodeus, the Demon Prince of Lust, quickly took claim as its ruler. At first, Asmodeus helped the souls that arrived at the Necropolis in their journey to either pass on or reincarnate to try life in the Flipside again. She would send her demons on a path up through the Otherside until they reached Morningstar. As more souls flooded in, Asmodeus had a change of heart. Suddenly she became more interested in hoarding the souls in her plane for power and pleasure.

This unexpected hoarding of souls led to the first great conflict between the Princes of Hell and would later result in the Soul Accord, dividing up where souls would go in the Otherside. Gone was the Dante-Esque journey of redemption for souls as each Demon Prince now held tightly onto the Demons. Though, due to Asmodeus' mighty army of Demons, she walked away from the Soul Accord still with the most Demons, getting the majority of human souls who die—with some exceptions.

In recent history, the Shadowfolk of the Everdark laid siege upon the Spire of the Necropolis, killing Asmodeus and threatening to continue their conquest through Mayda and possibly the rest of the Otherside. For the time being, the Shadow armies have been kept at bay thanks to the Necropolis' new leader, Black Queen Cole.

Inhabitants & Rulers

The Necropolis/Amaymon was once ruled by its simulacrum, Asmodeus, the Demon Prince of Lust. But in her death, it has been taken over by Black Queen Cole, a prodigious magic-user from the Flipside chosen by God to keep the Shadowfolk at bay. At Black Queen Cole’s side is the Warping Demon, Warren.

The inhabitants of the Necropolis include the majority of dead humans turned Demons. Cryptids are scarce in the Necropolis, though due to conditions of the Soul Accord, many pets find their way to their former owners from Esterskald or Mayda. Besides the mundane Demons who call the Necropolis their home, there are also the various Shadowfolks of the Everdark, including Shades, Miasmas, and Pit-Dwellers, including Mrs. Florida, Mrs. Vizago, Mr. Lucia, and, in a way, Miss. Umbra.
