Case No. 33
CAFE & DINER FOURTH CAFE · LONG BEACH, CA · UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT
MANAGER NO. 3
DATE: 1-1-2020

TOTAL: $90.39
Happy new year, everyone! And a happy new CaD as well, I suppose. Things are... different. I don't know if it's for the better or worse yet. On the one hand, it's great to have everyone together. There's no more Broadway CaD, Florida CaD, or Deep Corp 23, just one big happy CaD. But, on the other hand, Muldra. I won't say much more past that as it would be "rude," and he did... well, what did he do anyway? He "saved" the Cafe, but... Nah, not worth thinking about right now.
Right now, we need to focus on that big cat up in Oregon. As you might've seen in the report from 12/31 me and Manager No. 7 were headed up to see Mrs. Kay for ourselves, and, yes, that is indeed one big, mean cat. Huge. I'd say it's roughly the size of a small ATV, but I'm also not great with size estimations so take that with a grain of coffee grounds. Speaking of insignificant little worthless grains, no obvious signs of Salt' n Pepper yet. You'd think A23 would be all over this kind of thing. Maybe they just don't know about it yet. Perhaps they can only see Ottawa customers and Quebec's not on their radar yet. I guess that'd make sense, but you'd think with 23 field divisions and 3 paper-pusher divisions, they'd be more... on top of things. There's only like 20 of us.
Well, in any case, Mrs. Kay is a pretty unique customer with rather special dietary concerns. She's very picky about what she will and won't eat. If she doesn't like it, she'll tear it to shreds like the fat cat she is. But, according to our customer survey, there's one special she can't refuse, although we need to either find it or make it ourselves. I've got some ideas on that end, but I don't want to speculate too much here.
Me, Employee No. 71, and Manager No. 7 will try and get a closer look at her and hopefully end up in a big cat fight. I'd hate to see what her nails can do to someone. We'll be keeping our distance, but I'd really like to see if her nails are acrylic or shellac if you know what I mean. I'll let you know if we can find out!

This could be quite concerning. Our little customer friend, Mrs. Lludd, is still very much enjoying our bed and breakfast, but it would seem various keys have been popping up outside her door. Now, why could that be, hm? I think Mrs. Lludd has brought some additional friends with her, and they are rather peeved that they weren't invited to experience our bed and breakfast as well. Of course, I'd be more than happy to let them in, and I have checked some of her friends in, but they keep coming by the dozen. And they seem to all be frantically searching for the key to Mrs. Lludd's room. But, of course, only I know where the key is, and I am curious about something...
The key to Mrs. Lludd's room is upstairs to the left. I'll say it again, not out-loud, but through keystrokes, UPSTAIRS, and to the LEFT. I can't dare utter this aloud for fear that Mrs. Lludd's friends would eavesdrop on that location, but it seems unlikely they can hear the taps of my CaDCom's keyboard and meaningfully decipher the order of keys I've pressed. Unless... Well, we'll see, won't we? Of course, we can always speak through brass horns, but I feel that would get tiresome. And if they can indeed understand keystrokes, they might serve as valuable little spies, but for whom?
How Mrs. Lludd's friends managed to come all the way from the UK is a bit of a mystery. Perhaps they took an airplane, but to chart their own flights, well, that would be a rather unique skill. At least for Ottawa customers, it is. I don't know how these Quebec customers travel. It's worth finding out, though, and perhaps it could explain how Mrs. Kay ended up in Oregon. In fact, many of these customers seem to be showing up along the west coast, so perhaps that is our connection. Boundary lines are one thing, but perhaps there are Ley lines upon which these customers like to travel? Just a thought.

Well, once again, the powers that be (Manager No. 3) has requested a Diner receipt for the sake of record-keeping and, to quote, "make sure I still know where the shift key is on the CaDCom." Well, YES, I do happen to know where the shift key is. I just feel I do not need to abide by its cruel dogmatic oppressive syntax, William Strunk Jr. be damned. It also saves a lot of time just type. Have you ever considered that, J?
In any case, regarding yesterday's C-QZBEB04 receipt, it would seem we did get a prompt response from Pendragon's Bistro. It was literally a few minutes after I published the receipt that I got a new response post-dated a few weeks from now. However, it took me a good day to figure out what exactly they were trying to convey to me. I do not think a Diner Receipt is the "easiest" way to describe this kind of information, but alas, the monkey paw curls its wretched finger J. Your wish is granted but at what cost?
So what about that letter? Well, basically, if we think of ourselves as "America" and above or below us (depending on where you stand) is "Canada" or specifically "Ottawa" Then, "Quebec" is sort of this other province of Canada, or similar to it, that is slowly making its way across North America. So, if we are here, and let's pretend that over there is over there, we can see Quebec today, and they can see Quebec tomorrow. It will be like a Venn diagram, except it will result in not two circles with an overlap but one big overlapped circle. Again, I have to pull my punches here because this in the Diner, but I hope I'm getting my point across. I'll try a different metaphor if it's not. Like a ship out to sea, we've crossed into a storm. There's currently no indication that the storm will pass us or continue to follow us from here on out. John also made it pretty clear that if it is to be a passing storm, we do not want to keep a bunch of rainwater with us when it passes as it could sink our ship. So we need to bail that rainwater ASAP just in case. John said they were going to see if they could sail ahead and see if this storm does indeed pass or not, but, well, due to the nature of how our ship is built, there's only so far ahead they can sail before they end up back where they started.
So what does this mean for my new cocktail? Is all hope lost? No, it should still be fine. We just need to find a way to see through the storm. You know, like a dark 'n stormy maybe. Which also happens to be one of my favorite cocktails. So, I'm going to see if maybe one of the more, you know, tea-drinking managers can take a swing at this info. Maybe 6 or 1. 'Til then, I'm not gonna try and see up into the storm because I don't want to drown in an unforeseen downpour.
